It is necessary to gather all the pieces of capacity, the Prime Minister said.
The Bulgarian defence industry needs modernisation in order to be able to meet all the expectations that Europe's defence capabilities and capacities oblige us to be up to today's international and geopolitical situation.
With these words, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov addressed the members of the Council of Ministers today and announced that a Centre for Defence Innovation will be established.
"In the context of the recent events and the opportunities that are opening up for us as a member state of the Union to develop capabilities, it is very important at the moment to make the necessary coordination for the development of Bulgarian industrial and defence capabilities and capacities. This sector is so fragmented at the moment that we need to bring together all the pieces of capacity that exist, and they are not few at all, which is why the Centre for Defence Innovation will be established," Zhelyazkov said in his speech.
"The Bulgarian defence industry needs modernisation in order to be able to meet all the expectations that Europe's defence capabilities and capacities oblige us to be up to in today's international and geopolitical situation. This means upgrading our capabilities with a much higher added value production than we currently have, using the capacities. That is why both the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Economy and Industry must be on board with these processes as soon as possible, together with Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and with the support of all members of the Cabinet," he added.
The Prime Minister said that on Thursday in Brussels the European Council will mainly look at the new financial mechanisms, the synergy between public and private capital so that Europe in the coming years can be a safe haven for our European democratic way of life.
On 6 March, the euro leaders will meet on aid to Ukraine and European defence. | BGNES
